Our community of mask makers work diligently to provide hundreds of masks a week to our community. Some guidelines are listed below in order to aid the distribution of these little pieces of gold. Please incorporate these tips and guidelines into your mask making and donating goals.
PLEASE MAKE YOUR MASKS FIRST
We've learned it's best if you make the masks BEFORE you find a cause & commit to deliver them! Just in case life gets in the way, or you get caught up. PLUS - the recipient will get them soon after they're promised.
BEFORE DONATING
Remember to WARM/HOT WASH all masks😷& remove from dryer with freshly washed hands🖐, directly into a clean, never-used Ziploc bag! You are making a difference!🧼
AFTER you make your masks; please check the UPDATED DAILY list of the causes/families that need masks.
1 - Find a cause that speaks to you!
2 - FB Message Elizabeth Raiche & tell her about your donation.
3 - Write "Recipient(s) name(s)," "Your name," & "Phone #" in Sharpie on the bag.
4 - Drop off your Masks at Ben Franklin or the Hills Flat Guard Shack
5 - Have a cup of tea & take a nap
TAKE CARE OF YOU
As you’re building beautiful masks to save lives: tune in to your body. Are you craning your neck? Ergonomics are essential at this point. Try doing a mental scan of your position every time you start a new task/mask, and adjust.
BEST PRACTICES:
MASKS- heavyweight "quilters cotton" , thread count of at least 180 with a thicker and tighter weave. TIES - 1/2 inch elastic OR fabric strips. Around the head is best.
NOSE BRIDGE - use paperclips or other sturdy flexible wire.
FOR DONATIONS DO NOT USE - old clothes, pantyhose, yoga pants, old sheets, twist ties, pipe cleaners, bungee cords... etc. *these hacks are sorta ok for personal use ... BUT they will not stand up to machine washing.
Donated masks need to be as sturdy as possible.
